Babybeans has had the barfs. Actually we all have.
It as been quite the vicious little virus.
I took Marshall to the grocery store to buy more pedialyte and grabbed Adam a bag of cereal
before heading to the checkout.
Marshall wanted to hold the cereal.
He threw a fit when we had to put it on the conveyor belt to be scanned.
The bagger lady handed the cereal back to him and he clutched onto to it like it was his best friend.
But then he handed it back to the bagger lady. She thought he was done hugging it. He thought he was kindly letting her get a hug in before she handed it back to him. It ended up in a grocery sack in the back of the cart.
Another fit ensued.
I gave in and let it ride on the seat next to him the whole way home.
When we got home he ate a bowl full of dry cereal.
I was recently reunited with a favorite childhood book* and I thought I would share with you the opening paragraph:
“It’s a funny thing about mothers and fathers. Even when their own child is the most disgusting little blister you could ever imagine, they still think that he or she is wonderful. Some parents go further. They become so blinded by adoration they manage to convince themselves their child has qualities of genius. Well, there is nothing very wrong with all this. It’s the way of the world. It is only when the parents begin telling us about the brilliance of their own revolting offspring, that we start shouting, ‘Bring us a basin! We’re going to be sick!’”
I’m sorry if any of you feel this way. But I intend to continue with this blog, so … keep a pail handy
Our celebration started on Christmas Eve where we spent the day making spiced sugar cookies with eggnog frosting. Then we had a fabulous seafood feast, courtesy of Mom and Dad Green, comprised of jumbo crab legs, shrimp and asparagus. It was my sister’s first time eating crab legs, and she dipped most of her meat in her shrimp cocktail sauce instead of her butter, but we can’t fault our first timer for that. Marshall ate a little, but he didn’t really care for it. Maybe next year.
After dinner Marshall got a bath while Tess and I cleaned up (so if you see any pictures of Marshall in just his diaper, those are post-bath, pre-jammies). Then we opened our matching Christmas pajamas, courtesy of Mom and Dad Hansen, and had just started reading Luke 2 when Marshall decided to have a meltdown. The Christmas Eve dinner had taken way to long and the poor boy was exhausted. So, Adam read Luke 2 has loudly and quickly as he could, skipping over a few of the less-important parts, then we read “Twas the Night Before Christmas” and put our darling baby to bed.
We ended the night by watching “A Christmas Story”.
What a great day!
Christmas Day:
When Marshall left his room, he immediately made a beeline for his toys and started to play with the unwrapped presents from Santa.
He as also made a point to play with every single one of his toys. Christmas was a success!
We made cookies on Christmas Eve
The Christmas Eve Crab

Even daddy joined in on the fun with the toys
Chocolate with breakast? Delicious!
That’s one delicious chocolate
Making the eggs benedict
Those eggs benedict are looking tasty!
After all the presents were opened, Adam broken in our new pots and pans with homemade Eggs Benedict for everyone
He was a really sweet man, and he played with Marshall while we were waiting our turn so that when the time came to take the picture he would be comfortable rather than screaming like the kid before him. Of course, he wasn’t comfortable enough to smile until after the photo session was over. Oh well, at least he got to meet the Big Guy.
After 14 months my baby has finally gotten his first tooth. And it is not on the bottom (the most common place to get a first tooth) nor is it in the middle … but on the side where we think the canine teeth should go. And he hated that we tried to get a picture of it.
I guess I shouldn’t be too surprised … I have been wondering for a while now if his father is a vampire. I mean, the man is extremely pale, avoids sunlight, and has a fondness for very rare steaks.
On the plus side, I guess we won’t be needing to get those baby dentures after all. Marshall has teeth!
Deb reminded me yesterday that I forgot to post the videos i took of Marshall walking … which happened a month ago. Sorry about that! This sequence has three parts:
1. When Marshall is THINKING about walking:
2. When Marshall is barely taking his first steps:
